A top-down vertical shooter about bees
Honey Guardian is a top-down vertical shooter game in which the player takes control of a bee who is trying to defend its hive from various insects, such as ants and flies. Despite the theme of the game, it plays like any other shooter of this kind, with the bees and other insects firing projectiles as though they were guns.
Though not quite a “bullet hell” game like Nuclear Throne, Honey Guardian does share a lot of similarities, such as a selection of weapons, a variety of enemy types, and increasing difficulty as the player progresses through the game world.
Protect the honey
As the name Honey Guardian suggests, the purpose of the player in the game is to guard the hive’s honey against a slew of insects that are trying to steal it. These include ants, wasps, and more. Some of these enemies can only harm the player if they come in contact, while others can fire projectiles at the player.
Simple controls and straightforward gameplay
The game’s controls are very simple, with only a few buttons necessary. These include movement keys and a button for changing weapons. The only other important button is the first button, which can be held down to continue firing repeatedly. The aim of the game is to avoid hostile attacks from invading insects and kill as many of them as possible with the bee’s own attacks.
A fun but short game
Honey Guardian is a fun experience made all the more impressive by the fact that it was created by a single developer for a time-limited game jam. However, it should be noted that the game is very short in length and does not feature much content.
